Installing Linux on my 8 year old laptop

Linux Mint on a laptop that hadn’t been turned on in six years. First time running Linux.

This is my 8 year old laptop, and today I’m installing Linux. Specifically Linux Mint, because it’s lightweight and good for beginners.

This is my first time running Linux, so I wanted to start simple. After doing a little bit of research it seems pretty easy to install:

  1. Download your ISO.
  2. Use a tool like Rufus to make your installation media.
  3. Plug it in and boot from it.

A short while later and we’re finally in the desktop. And honestly it looks pretty clean.

My trackpad wasn’t working too well, but I fixed that by downloading some sort of driver.

After messing around with it for a little bit, I’m surprised how well it runs on something that hasn’t been turned on in six years.

Now that I got it fully installed, what should I try next?
